What Is Air Duct Cleaning?

Duct cleaning is the process of cleaning the air vents in the HVAC system that channel forced air (air conditioning and heat) throughout your home or business. Platinum Air Care utilizes powerful duct cleaning truck mounted equipment to suction the dirt and debris out after breaking the collection of contaminants loose throughout the duct vents using powerful (but safe) compressed airbrushes, whips, and other methods. We make sure the stuck-on dirt inside your vents is knocked loose and cleaned out.

Duct Cleaning Consists Of 3 Main Steps:

Inspection

Our inspector will check your home to estimate the length of the job, access to vents, and price. The Inspector will also show you some of the current dust in your ducts, as well as before and after pictures from previous work.

Preparation and Cleaning

Our technicians will first adjust to your home's layout and use appropriate materials to avoid dirtying your home. They will then begin the cleaning process consisting of using tools to loosen the dust and dirt inside the duct work, then suction it all out!

Sanitize and Finishing Process

After our technicians have fully cleaned your duct work, they sanitize your duct work with eco-friendly and breathing friendly spray (optional). Any noticeable air gaps in your duct work are also patched. Afterwards, our technicians will go over a checklist with the customer to ensure satisfaction.

Why Clean Your Air Ducts?

Most home dust contains dust mites, mold, mildew, pollen, and/or animal dander. Many of these contaminants are circulated through the central air system and can aggravate asthma and allergies.

Air Duct Cleaning is useful for those who do not like dust on everything. The reason that dust accumulates on ceiling fans and other furniture is that the air ducts are dirty. Poor quality air filters unchanged over long periods of time are usually the culprit. Once dust gets into the HVAC system it spreads throughout the entire duct system and home.

What are some benefits of Cleaning your Air Ducts?

  • Energy Savings - Clean vents means your HV/AC equipment is not restricted, therefore it does not have to work harder to produce the same results in your home.

  • IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) - Duct work is considered the lungs of your home, keeping the duct work clean means less dust circulates in your home, to help keep your home clean!

  • Reduces Odors / Smells - In some cases, duct cleaning can remove that “funny house smell” you may notice entering specific homes or rooms.

  • Fire Safety - Regular dryer vent cleaning is recommended by FEMA (U.S. Fire Administration) as well as many insurance companies to help prevent possible fires. Dryer vent cleaning also is recommended if you notice your clothes are taking longer to dry compared to normal.

Dryer vent cleaning also helps your dryer work efficiently and makes sure your dried clothes are actually dry. Many individuals notice over time that their clothing does not dry as it once did, and blame the dryer itself; when cleaning the vents is a possible solution!

At Platinum Air Care, We Take Safety Seriously

Our dryer vent duct cleaning services keep your dryer working in its peak condition.

2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year and cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss. Dryer fire hazards caused by dryer lint are a possibility everyone should be aware of.

  • The leading cause of home clothes dryer fires is failure to clean them (34%)

  • More home clothes dryer fires occur in the fall and winter months, peaking in January.

Duct Cleaning FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  • On average we suggest regular cleanings every 3 to 4 years. If a homeowner has pets, children, or a type of respiratory illness without any type of filtration system, having your system cleaned every 1 to 2 years is recommended.

  • The average single-family home duct cleaning takes about 1-2 hours for up to 10 ducts. This can take longer with more ducts and older homes.

  • All the dirt and dust is vacuumed directly to our truck and is taken with us to properly dispose of.

  • No! Our technicians are trained to respect you and your home, taking extra time to ensure a clean inside, and outside of your ductwork.

  • Our professional duct cleaning service can thoroughly clean the home’s HVAC system and ductwork. It should be noted, however, duct cleaning does not fix the source of the problem. A thorough inspection of the HVAC system would be recommended if mold growth is a possibility to eliminate the problem at the source.

  • Easy! Just give us a call or email us and we can schedule your residential or commercial duct cleaning job in minutes. We will also provide a reminder call or text message to let you know when your technician is to arrive.

  • Our air duct cleaning technicians typically use compressed air and suction from the dryer exhaust on the exterior of your home.

  • Start with keeping your home clean, vacuum often, and change your furnace filter regularly. There are more options (such as air filtration), but it is important to start with the basics.

  • Duct cleaning costs on average around $200 to $500. Larger homes or homes that have very contaminated ducts can cost more. This does not include any promotional discounts or added services such as dryer vent cleaning or furnace cleaning in the average price estimate.

  • Yes! However, HRV/ERV vent cleaning is an additional cost (like dryer vent cleaning). These vents are usually more delicate and fragile, taking more time to safely clean. Our technicians can also switch out your vents for new, clean ones if preferred!

  • Yes! Our licensed gas technicians are also able to professionally clean the gas furnace and heating system which includes cleaning the blower and heat exchanger for an additional charge.

  • Without the proper tools, it is unlikely you will be able to clean the ducts in your home. Using a standard vacuum cleaner will only reach a small limited area compared to the large span of the ductwork.

  • There are a few benefits, especially if it has never been done before. When your furnace is clean it will run more efficiently, is more likely to last its lifespan and longer, and run safely. Furnace cleaning is not to be confused with a proper inspection and maintenance of the furnace which checks for things such as a heat exchanger crack that can leak carbon monoxide into the air!
