Duct-mounted UV light air purifiers · London & Southwestern Ontario
UV air purifier systems for your furnace
A UV air purifier mounts in the ductwork at your furnace, out of sight, and treats the air before it is redistributed through the house. Germicidal UV-C light and photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) break down what a filter cannot catch — odors, VOCs, and airborne contaminants. Platinum Air Care has installed them in Ontario homes since 1999.
Free in-home air test: about 30 minutes, no cost, and no obligation.
How it works
How a UV light air purifier works in your ductwork
Odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the gases off cleaning products are molecules — too small for any filter to strain out. A filter stops what is bigger than its holes: dust, pollen, dander, and smoke particles. A UV air purifier breaks those molecules apart instead.
-
Mounted at the furnace
Fitted in the ductwork and out of sight, it treats the air before it is redistributed through the house. It works whenever the furnace fan runs.
-
UV-C light activates the PCO
Germicidal UV-C light activates a photocatalytic (PCO) surface inside the unit. The reaction oxidizes the odors, VOCs, and microbes that reach it, leaving water vapor and carbon dioxide.
-
The coil stays clean
The A-coil collects moisture from the air conditioning, and bacteria and mold commonly grow there. The UV light inhibits that growth, so the coil is not restricted and air passes through it efficiently.
Two different jobs. Filtration catches particles as the air passes through it. UV-C and PCO treat what a filter cannot catch — odors and airborne contaminants. Where dust, pollen, and dander are the concern too, a UV system is usually paired with the RPS Whole Home HEPA or the Platinum TrueHEPA — or the MedicAir® Pro, which does both jobs in one portable cabinet.
Current systems
Duct-mounted UV-C + PCO air purifiers we install today
Both use UV-C light with photocatalytic oxidation, and both are duct-mounted. The difference is what else is in the box.
Platinum PURE
The newest and best of the Platinum UV line.
The Platinum PURE is an American-made ultra-violet type-C photocatalytic system designed to purify the entire home through the HVAC system. Compared to the Platinum PCO and Platinum Carbon UV, the Platinum PURE utilizes the same great technology with 3 times more surface area and provides an easier-to-install design with a lifetime warranty.
- A single lamp in a smaller body
- A much smaller opening cut into the ductwork
- Produces zero ozone
- Lifetime warranty, except the UV lamp

RPS PUV System
Duct-mounted UV-C and PCO, built for odors.
Two lamp assemblies, each a double tube, put more UV output through a bigger treatment chamber. There is no fan and no filter media, so nothing is added to your furnace’s airflow.
The right choice when odors are the problem (cooking, pets, smoke, damp), or VOCs from cleaning products, new furniture, or renovations.
- Two double UV-C lamps
- A larger treatment chamber
- Ozone-free
- Lamps replaced yearly
What our customers say
Platinum Air Care is rated 4.9 from 2,300+ Google reviews across London and Southwestern Ontario.
Which one suits your house?
It depends on the equipment and on the house — the Platinum PURE and the RPS PUV System are not the same install, and what suits one home is wrong for the next. That is what the free in-home air test is for, and it costs nothing.
Owners · lamps and service
Own a Platinum Carbon UV or Platinum PCO?
Both are earlier Platinum UV systems and no longer sold: the Platinum PCO was updated to the Platinum Carbon UV, and the Platinum PURE replaced it. The lamps are stocked, and our technicians still service both. The two take the same replacement lamp (the Platinum PURE takes a different one), and lamps ship anywhere in North America.
Platinum Carbon UV
With an updated design, the Platinum Carbon UV is a reliable PCO air purifier system designed primarily for residential use: American construction, validated to produce no ozone, and professionally tested by Airmid Healthgroup (a certified allergy testing lab) for its effectiveness in sterilizing micro-organisms and reducing volatile organic compounds.
Replacement lamps are stocked: order them from our online store for mail delivery, or have one of our certified technicians do the replacement for you.

Platinum PCO
One of the first of its kind, the Platinum PCO air purifier system brought PCO purification to the HVAC system with an award-winning design, and it was the first to carry a lifetime warranty as a quality American-made air purifier system.
While the original design has been updated to the Platinum Carbon UV, replacement lamps are still available. Our technicians can install the lamp for you, or we can mail it to your door.

Questions
Common questions about UV air purifiers
Which UV air purifier is best for an HVAC system?
Both systems we install use UV-C with PCO and are built for odors and VOCs. The Platinum PURE, the newest and best of the Platinum UV line, has the same technology as the Platinum PCO and Platinum Carbon UV with 3 times more surface area, in an easier-to-install design. The RPS PUV System puts two double lamps in a larger treatment chamber. What suits one home is wrong for the next, so the free in-home air test is the place to start.
Does a UV air purifier replace my furnace filter?
No. Filtration removes what UV cannot, and UV treats what filtration cannot: a filter catches particles, while UV-C and PCO treat what a filter cannot catch — odors and airborne contaminants. Where dust, pollen, and dander are the concern too, a UV system is usually paired with a furnace HEPA system, or the MedicAir® Pro does both jobs in one portable cabinet.
Do UV air purifiers produce ozone?
Not the ones we install. The Platinum PURE is validated to produce zero ozone, and the RPS PUV System is ozone-free: contaminants are reduced to water vapor and carbon dioxide.
Is a UV air purifier safe for children and pets?
When a UV light is installed in a central air system, the germ-killing effect takes place inside the air system and is limited to that area. There is no danger to any living thing in the home except microbes that are carried by air into the central air system.
Can I still get lamps for a Platinum Carbon UV or Platinum PCO?
Yes. Both take the same replacement lamp, and it is stocked: order it online, or have one of our technicians replace it for you. Lamps ship anywhere in North America. The Platinum PURE takes a different lamp.
How much does a UV air purifier cost?
It depends on the equipment and on the house — the two systems are not the same install, and what suits one home is wrong for the next. That is what the free in-home air test is for, and it costs nothing.
