Is Stratford’s tap water hard?

Very hard at the Romeo Street wells, which supplied about half of 2025’s water. Stratford’s water is groundwater from 11 confined artesian wells, and the City says its deep well aquifers make the water rich in minerals. In the province’s July 2023 sampling, raw water from three wells in the Romeo Street field measured 626 to 1,010 mg/L of hardness.

• 37 to 59 grains per gallon in raw water from three Romeo Street wells (Ontario’s sampling, July 2023)

Is Stratford’s water chlorinated or chloraminated?

Chlorinated, not chloraminated. The City adds chlorine gas at every well pumphouse and at the Romeo Street station, with analyzers checking the free chlorine residual continuously before the water enters the system, and no ammonia is added.
