Heating and Cooling Needs in Barrie, Ontario
Barrie experiences a long heating season, with about 223 cm of snow a year (Environment Canada 1981-2010 normals, Barrie WPCC) and extended stretches of sub-zero temperatures. Summers bring warm, humid conditions. Both seasons place sustained demand on residential heating and cooling equipment, and Barrie homes — from older downtown properties to newer south-end builds — benefit from HVAC systems sized and configured for those specific conditions.

Heat pumps
Heat Pump Installation and Repair in Barrie
A heat pump heats and cools from one outdoor unit. We install heat pumps, and we repair and service most makes, not only the ones we install.
Paired with your furnace, it makes what York calls a hybrid system: the heat pump can be your main source of heat in the colder months, and the furnace backs it up in extreme cold.
Common questions
Do you offer HVAC installation in Barrie?
Yes. Barrie is on our regular service schedule. Tell us where you are, and we will book you into the next Barrie service day. A licensed technician comes to your home.
Do you repair furnaces and air conditioners in Barrie?
Yes. York is what we install, but we repair and service most furnaces and air conditioners already in Barrie homes. If yours is a make we cannot get parts for, we will tell you before we book the visit.
Is Platinum Air Care an HVAC contractor for Barrie?
Yes. Platinum Air Care is an HVAC contractor and an indoor air company: we install York furnaces and air conditioners, and repair and service most makes already in your home.
Who supplies natural gas in Barrie?
Enbridge Gas is Barrie's natural gas distributor and has served the city since 1957 (Ontario Energy Board, 2025). It also holds the gas franchises for Innisfil, Springwater, Oro-Medonte, and Essa, which border Barrie. Barrie's electricity comes from Alectra Utilities. Enbridge delivers the gas but doesn't sell or repair furnaces or water heaters: for repairs and maintenance, it points homeowners to an HVAC contractor.
What size furnace or heat pump does a Barrie home need?
Ontario's Building Code sets Barrie's January design temperature at −24°C, the outdoor temperature heating systems there are ordinarily designed for, six degrees colder than London's −18°C, with 4,380 heating degree-days a year. Summers count too: the Code's July design temperature is 29°C, the summer condition air conditioning is designed for, and Barrie sees about 10 days a year above 30°C. The median Barrie home was built between 1991 and 2000. Which size suits a house comes down to its ductwork, insulation, and windows, so a new one is sized to your home and your ducts, not just matched to the old unit's label.

We Install York Furnaces and Air Conditioners
York is the equipment we put in homes — a full range, from a straightforward single-stage furnace to fully modulating heat and variable-speed cooling. A furnace and air conditioner are one system, so we fit them as a matched pair, sized to your house rather than to whatever was there before.

Why Choose Platinum Air Care for Heating & Cooling
Barrie's combination of long winters, humid summers, and a housing stock that ranges from homes built in 1960 or earlier to post-2000 subdivisions means there is no single HVAC configuration that suits every property.
Ductwork condition, insulation, window exposure, and homeowner preferences all shape which heating or cooling equipment is right for a Barrie home, and our technicians can help you decide. That property-by-property approach is how we have worked with Ontario homeowners since 1999.
