Heating and Cooling Needs in Kitchener, Ontario

Kitchener homes span well over a century of construction, and heating and cooling needs vary just as widely. A heritage property near Victoria Park has different ductwork, insulation, and envelope characteristics than a post-war Forest Heights bungalow or a new build in Doon South. HVAC equipment that performs well in one of those contexts may be undersized or oversized in another.

Common questions

Do you repair air conditioners in Kitchener?

Yes. York is what we install, but we repair and service most air conditioners already in Southwestern Ontario homes. Warm air, ice on the refrigerant lines, or a unit that runs all afternoon and never catches up: call (519) 686-3595 and tell us what it is doing.

Do you install air conditioners in Kitchener?

Yes. York is what we install, and whatever make is outside your home now, we remove the existing unit and install a York sized to your house. A new outdoor unit is matched to your furnace and coil, so the two work as one system instead of against each other.

Is Platinum Air Care an HVAC contractor for Kitchener?

Yes. Platinum Air Care is a London HVAC contractor and an indoor air company: we install York furnaces and air conditioners, and repair and service most makes already in your home.

Who supplies natural gas in Kitchener?

Kitchener Utilities, a division of the City of Kitchener and one of two municipally owned gas utilities in Ontario; it has delivered water and gas in Kitchener for over 100 years. Electricity comes from Enova Power, formed from Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro and Waterloo North Hydro in 2022.

What size furnace or heat pump does a Kitchener home need?

Ontario's Building Code sets Kitchener's January design temperature at −19°C, the outdoor temperature heating systems there are ordinarily designed for, with 4,200 heating degree-days a year. Summers count too: the Code's July design temperature is 29°C, the summer condition air conditioning is designed for, and Kitchener/Waterloo averages 11.4 days a year above 30°C. In the 2021 Census, 48.6% of Kitchener's homes were built in 1980 or earlier. Which size suits a house comes down to its ductwork, insulation, and windows, so a new one is sized to your home and your ducts, not just matched to the old unit's label.

We Install York Furnaces and Air Conditioners

York is the equipment we put in homes — a full range, from a straightforward single-stage furnace to fully modulating heat and variable-speed cooling. A furnace and air conditioner are one system, so we fit them as a matched pair, sized to your house rather than to whatever was there before.

Why Choose Platinum Air Care for Heating & Cooling

A housing stock that ranges from late-1800s heritage homes to post-2000 subdivisions means there is no single HVAC configuration that suits every Kitchener property.

Ductwork condition, insulation, window exposure, and homeowner preferences all shape which heating or cooling equipment is right for a home, and our technicians can help you decide. That property-by-property approach is how we have worked with Ontario homeowners since 1999.
