Water Quality in Windsor, Ontario
Windsor's municipal water is drawn from the Detroit River and treated at the A.H. Weeks Water Treatment Plant, owned by the Windsor Utilities Commission and operated by ENWIN. According to ENWIN, hardness varies from the mid-90s to 125 mg/L, roughly 6 to 7 grains per gallon, which it describes as moderately hard.
That level is lower than the groundwater-supplied cities inland, but still influences how soap and detergents perform and which filtration options fit a home.
Is Windsor’s tap water hard?
Moderately hard, in ENWIN’s words, and it is the same water the A.H. Weeks system sends to Tecumseh and LaSalle.

Is Windsor’s water chlorinated or chloraminated?
Chlorinated, after ozone. Ozone is the A.H. Weeks plant’s primary disinfectant, and ENWIN adds chlorine continuously as the water leaves, at a controlled 1.5 mg/L, with no ammonia added. ENWIN notes that homes close to the plant may notice more chlorine than homes farther away, because the dose has to last to the far ends of the system.
